PURPOSE:
The programme is intended to recognize scholastic achievement and provide financial assistance to students of Vittoria and district entering their first year of post-secondary education.
VALUE:
A $2,500.00 scholarship will be awarded for entrance to university or community college.
ELIGIBILITY:
Eligibility is limited to residents of Vittoria and district. (For purposes of this 2010 scholarship, "district” has been defined as a more or less rectangular area bounded on the west by the West Quarter line of Charlotteville, on the south by Lake Erie, on the east by Port Ryerse Road, and on the north by Regional Road 3 and the Sixth Concession of Charlotteville).
People who have already completed some post-secondary studies are not eligible.
QUALIFICATIONS OF APPLICANT:
Candidates must have completed the last year of schooling required for admission to university or community college in not more than two years, and obtained an average of 75% or better in their six highest final grade academic courses. There will be one scholarship awarded in 2010.
OBLIGATION OF WINNER:
The successful candidate must be prepared to enter a full-time course of study at a university or the minimum of a two year full- time programme at a community college, within one academic year of graduation from secondary school.
(Eligibility will not be affected if the applicant takes no more than one academic year off before continuing post-secondary education or takes additional courses after graduation before continuing their post-secondary education).
AWARDING OF SCHOLARSHIP:
The awarding of the scholarship will be based on the following principles:
1) the academic record and all-around achievement of the student, attested to by the school principal (attach letter of recommendation from the principal to the application form)
2) an essay accompanying this application, of approximately 1,000 words (essays to be typed, double spaced on 81/2" x 11" paper), dealing with the topic:
a) Relate a component in your life (individual, hobby, personal experience), which has influenced your decisions and choice of future goals.
3) proof of acceptance at a post-secondary institution.
Each finalist must attend a personal interview with the Scholarship Selection Committee of The Vittoria & District Foundation. The interview is considered in the evaluation process for the scholarship. All essays become the property of The Vittoria & District Foundation.
METHOD OF PAYMENT:
Payment will be made by The Vittoria and District Foundation to the the applicant to whom the scholarship is awarded following the decision of the Committee.
DEADLINE DATE:
Applications, letter of recommendation, Ministry of Education final student transcripts and confirmation of acceptance at university or community college are to be sent directly to The Vittoria & District Foundation and must arrive at the address given below no later than July 16, 2010. Applicants will receive a letter acknowledging receipt of their application.
